HOLLYWOOD - Juan Manuel Marquez has always been known for doing bizarre things when training for a fight. The Mexican is at it again as he prepares for his December 8 (December 9, Manila time) duel with rival Manny Pacquiao.

Marquez, who once drank his own urine leading to his fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. three years ago, is now into 'cupping therapy’ otherwise known as 'ventosa,’ a form of massage which uses suction cups and heat to vacuum parts of the body to relieve muscle spasm and tension.
Dr Luis Martinez supervises the procedure on the 39-year-old Marquez shortly after every training session at the Romanza boxing gym in Mexico.
“This technique helps the body repair itself. He (Marquez) loves it when we use the cup on him because it makes his body stronger,” said Martinez of the unique ancient form of alternative medicine from China.
“The therapy invigorates him, everything is regenerating.”
Marquez has since given up practicing urophagia, the art of consuming one’s own urine which practicioners believed has healing powers.
“Training is hard. It’s something that consumes me,” he said.
